Mike Parry - Email Monkey
How did Mike get to the exalted position of Email Monkey, well it was a
road well trodden. In 1999 Mike was employed by e2 Communications as UK Sales
Director for a new type of Marketing business, Email Marketing. It was a
solution brought over from the States waiting for a problem. Those early days
were interesting, the role was very much an evangelical one. No one had any
data, and the few who did used in house servers to set up and send very basic
communications. Belief in the medium, hard work and fortunate timing established
e2 in the UK and when it was acquired by Bluestreak in 2002, e2 was the UK market
leader with a turnover of £2.1million.
In July 2002 Mike left e2/Bluestreak to launch EmailBureau at IPT. Again, nervous
times, in August 2002 EmailBureau sent no email for no clients. By August 2007 they
were sending 140,000,000 emails per month for over 100 clients. During that growth
period the email marketing landscape had changed dramatically and Mike oversaw the
launch of a number of complimentary tools and products for IPT. Some of the
highlights were, EmailMonitor, a suite of deliverability products designed to assist
marketers with their delivery. Email-Tracker, an online email resource library,
capturing and republishing over 2,000,000 UK marketing emails to assist marketers
with planning and creative ideas.
While at EmailBureau, Mike, along with Tony and a ghost writer was also responsible
for the majority of the content found in the books, the Essential Industry Guides to
Email Marketing and the Big Book of Email Marketing. Loving the sound of his own voice,
he can be heard evangelising wherever a soap box is handy. You may have seen him at a
Savoy Breakfast, A BAFTA presentation, IDMF, TFM, Internet World, AD Tech, The Marketing
Forum and any number of smaller events. Or read his articles/quotes on Mad.co.uk,
Revolution magazine, New Media Age and the Telegraph.
In September 2007, Mike and Tony left EmailBureau to take another scary plunge into
the unknown and launch Inbox Warriors. I can safely say it was the best decision we ever
made.
Tony MacPherson - Client Slave
Tony is the timeless one, although his birth certificate says he is 55 he looks 35
and the truth is probably somewhere in the middle (isn’t it always!) Tony joined Mike
at e2 communications in 2000, where he was a Sales Manager with responsibility for
account development and new business sales. In his time at e2 Tony worked extensively
with a number of Blue Chip clients including, WH Smith, Dell Computers, the Sthree Group,
Marks and Spencer, Dixons, National Express, PC World, Currys to name a few. He really is
getting old and this was along time ago so he’s having trouble remembering the others :)
When Bluestreak acquired e2 Tony also left to launch EmailBureau and took up the role
of Client Services Director, In this role, Tony had ultimate responsibility for all aspects
of client set up, integration, campaign management and the day-to-day running over a
department that could best be described as an email factory - managing over 1,000 campaigns
a month for over 100 clients.
Tony was responsible for integrating a number of very complex client requirements for
automated sytsem lead emails. He also managed siteside triggered cross sell campaigns for
eBookers with 162 dynamic content triggers. He personally managed the Dogs Trust triggered
emails with over 50 dynamic creatives triggered by actions siteside. Tony also did similar
work for Axa PPP for their dynamic quote system. Hugely knowledgeable, Tony has been quoted
in New Media Age, Revolution, Mad.co.uk as well as being responsible for much of the content
of The Essential Industry Guides to Email Marketing and The Big Book of Email Marketing.
Tony is now co-owner and Client Slave of Inbox Warriors limited, as Client Slave, he is
available at your beck and call for all things email, and some not!
Adrian Nabarro - Head of Stuff
Adrian Nabarro, the Geeks geek, claims to be "self taught" on a number of his core
activities and, if O’Rielly’s text books are self taught he is the king of the Open University.
Adrian started his career as a web publisher and in 2000 moved into email marketing with South
African email broadcaster, eMessageX, when asked what his role was at eMessageX, he replied,
"I did everything really". By that I think he means campaign management, email design, creative,
database management and systems integration. Having worked with Adrian for four years I know he
never made the tea!.
When Adrian joined EmailBureau in 2004 his wealth of experience was the reason for employing
him, however we were soon to learn that his dedication to the client and his can do attitude
meant he was often the last person to leave the office, but also the last to arrive in the
morning too but that’s another story. Adrian is a true do’er, nothing is too much trouble, as
long as he is fed red meat he can keep going for days and it was this character trait that made
him key to Inbox Warriors success and one of our very first hires.
Since joining the Warriors Adrian has continued his excellent work and is core to us
delivering against our client requirements
Melanie Jewell - Data Geek
The consummate data professional, Melanie has taken Inbox Warriors database management to
a new level. Melanie spent four years studying data at the University of Surrey and then worked
for IT firm TSL. After cutting her teeth there Melanie moved to IPT’s EmailBureau where she
worked for 4 years preparing and managing databases for email marketing.
When Inbox Warriors were in the market for a Data Geek there was only one name on our list:
Melanie Jewell. When Mike says setting up Inbox Warriors was the best decision he and Tony ever
made it is closely followed by employing Melanie. Her brilliant skills combined with her hard
working attitude and an aptitude to take whatever is thrown at her (and trust me we’ve put that
to the test) has revolutionised our business and she has become a very important cog in our wheel.
Andrew Marshall - The Friday Night Man
The Friday Night Man started his career in Ireland before moving to London where things really
started to swing. He is a highly self-motivated professional with a solid record in the Private and
Public sectors. He has gained significant experienced in managing & delivering customer requirements
& expectations within the business process outsourcing, consulting, IT programme and print
management service sectors.
He is an outstanding communicator, well versed in presentation & interpersonal skills combined
with the drive, energy and enthusiasm to meet target our customers deliverables and objectives. In
order to meet our customer's expectations The Friday Night Man will ensure he gives them his fullest
care and attention regardless of request.
